Universal Hour of Peace

Peace be with you as we enter 2023!

The quest for peace begins in the home, in the school and in the workplace.

Silvia Cartwright, 18th Governor-General of New Zealand

I am writing these words on the last day of 2022, just before the hour of 11:30 pm which will usher in “The Universal Hour of Peace.”

Peace is a lifelong journey that binds us together and builds resilience within ourselves, our families, and our communities.

The Universal Hour of Peace is a global event that takes place from 11:30 pm on December 31st to 12:30 am on January 1st. It is a time for people to come together and focus on promoting peace and harmony, both within themselves and in the world. The day encourages activities such as prayer, music, poetry, and speeches, and encourages people to share resources for promoting harmony in their communities.

The Universal Hour of Peace was first conceived by Dr. Barbara Condron at the School of Metaphysics. The world celebrated the first Universal Hour of Peace on October 24, 1995, which aligned with the autumnal equinox and the 50th anniversary of the United Nations. The following year, it was moved to January 1st at noon GMT, and is now celebrated from 11:30 pm December 31st to 12:30 am January 1st.

Better than a thousand hollow words, is one word that brings peace.

  3. What a great way to usher in a new year, thank you, Rebecca! Your post reminds me of Rochefoucauld’s “If we have not peace within ourselves, it is in vain to seek it from outward sources”, and to thank you for posts throughout 2022 that helped us find peace from within!

  7. I didn’t even know about the universal hour of peace, and I regret that I missed acknowledging it. A gorgeous recording, my friend. The river was indeed peaceful, the music serene, and the quotes gentle as well as profound. ❤
